Christine has worked at HMP Send for nearly twenty years and was involved in setting up a Play Project so that children visiting a prisoner would have the opportunity to play both with other children and with their prisoner parent.

Christine is a Trustee of the Charity Send Family Link and has responsibility for Safe Guarding and for the quality of the play provision.  Christine is a volunteer play worker who has direct involvement with the play being offered to the children in the Visits Hall. As well as the three social visits a week at HMP SEnd there are twelve family days a year. The family days offer an informal setting for the children and their mothers and are very important to helping to build and encourage the relationship between mother and children.

Quality play is an important element for children when visiting a prison and helps to relieve some stress around what can be a daunting experience. It enables children to talk to other children in the same situation, to relax after what can be a long and stressful journey and to share with a sensitive playworker some of the thoughts and anxieties they may have, as well as talk and play with their parent or caregiver.
