In Sweden, Bufff has implemented a program to provide parental support as soon as possible after a parent is incarcerated. They begin the process during remand and early on during the prison sentence. This program, Child Talk, provides parental support for the sake of the child. It is for all parents, both in and out of prison, as well as for stepparents and older siblings of the children affected by parental imprisonment.

The goal of Child Talk is to give information to the parents on the impact of parental imprisonment and how to best help the child, therefore strengthening the child’s ability to cope with the new situation. By providing information, it allows children to better understand the situation and receive support from their parents and close family members.
