In 2014, Norm Reed was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to conduct a study of the role of Prison Based Family Support Workers.  Based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, Norm has been trialling the role of a Family Liaison Worker in Risdon Prison (the only prison in the Tasmanian state). He is actively involved in the prison (which houses the Men’s Maximum, Medium and Minimum and Women’s prison) and provides a number of family services to the prison including Kid’s Days (Family Days for children and their parents), a Video Visits programme linking families who live in remote regions of the state to their incarcerated family member and provides a house for families requiring overnight accommodation when visiting.
