EuroPris (European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services) is organising a workshop on Family Relations the 11-12 April 2018 in Vienna, highlighting the relationships between children and their imprisoned parents as well as relationships of prisoners with siblings and parents. EuroPris’ Family Relations expert group, who has recently published their Good Practice Collection, will head this workshop. The Good Practice Collection details topics to be discussed at the workshop, each of which will consider the situation of children and families of prisoners within the following areas:
- Community involvement
- Intervention programmes
- Visiting facilities
- Staff training
- Communication
In January 2018 EuroPris also shared a factsheet compiled by the CPT which outlines detailed standards on the treatment of women in prison. You can view it here.
In addition to reviewing EuroPris’ Good Practice Collection developments and work, the workshop will shed light on practices in countries such as Italy; Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The Council of Europe recommendation on children with imprisoned parents will be presented in its final form, and COPE will share their recent work – discussing how it ties into the topics covered by the Good Practice Collection and focusing on children with imprisoned parents.
EuroPris welcomes public sector representatives, academics and NGOs to the workshop. Access more information and register here.
