Many young people experience bullying at some point in their lives. Since the proliferation of the Internet with its chat rooms, social media sites and instant messaging, we have seen a serious increase in the phenomenon of cyberbullying.

Article 19 of the UNCRC clearly stipulates the right of every child to be free from violence: this includes also any form of bullying.

We at Children of Prisoners Europe are concerned about the increase of threats, intimidation and the serious psychological and social issues that result from cyberbullying. With the financial support of the Fundamental Rights and Citizenship Programme of the European Union, we have therefore created a video message aimed at adults and children alike to show how widespread this problem actually is and launch a call to action from all actors in different  sectors.

In June 2014 there will be a virtual march across global websites against all forms of bullying, including cyberbullying. This is being organised by BeatBullying which is an international bullying prevention charity working and campaigning to make bullying unacceptable, in the UK and across Europe. We need to stop this type of intimidation. Join The Big March 2014.
