About the conference

This pan-European conference, hosted by Bambinisenzasbarre and co-organised by Children of Prisoners Europe, will look at how working to support the child-parent relationship when a parent is imprisoned benefits all parties involved: the child, the imprisoned parent, the caretaker parent, the prison, decision-makers, media, local communities, the general public and society as a whole. It will explore how stakeholders and decision-makers can work together to develop integrated cross-sectoral support for children with imprisoned parents, strengthening the child’s well-being and healthy development and the agency of the imprisoned parent, while reducing transgenerational offending; recidivism; crime; and public spending—a win-win situation benefiting all. The conference will showcase multidisciplinary good practice from across Europe and include a panel discussion with top journalists, lawyers and judges exploring how media can play a constructive role in raising awareness about children and their imprisoned parents.

The conference will take place at Castel Nuovo in Naples under the auspices of the Naples Municipality. Mauro Palma, former President of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and first National Ombudsman for the Rights of Persons Detained or Deprived of their Liberty, will give the keynote and chair the conference.
