The European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services (EuroPris) Family Relations Expert Group has drafted a Good Practice Collection in cooperation with Children of Prisoners Europe (COPE). This Collection has come out of two years of fruitful exchange between Prison and Correctional Service representatives from eleven countries across Europe, along with COPE. The Collection covers a number of different topics relating to families of prisoners, with chapters on visiting facilities, community involvement, communication, intervention programmes and staff training.
The EuroPris Family Relations expert group meet regularly to discuss issues related to family relations across Europe, when a family member is in prison. The meetings have inspired Prison Services to introduce new ideas and tools, including improved child-friendly visiting areas, training modules for staff, information materials and brochures. The group is of the opinion that it is essential to create European standards for family relations within prison systems.
