A survey conducted by INSEE, the French national institute for statistics and economic studies, on the “Family Situation of Male Prisoners” (Synthèses, n° 59) was published in January 2002 and is now available. The survey focused on 1,700 male prisoners during the March 1999 census poll, for which 400,000 men and women completed a questionnaire on their family histories. The study represents a significant step in compiling facts and figures on the prison population. www.insee.fr (produits et services : publications)
