The Norwegian Forum for the Convention of the Rights of the Child has submitted a shadow report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. FFP has contributed to this work. Among other issues, attention is drawn to the situation of children with imprisoned parents and children whose parents risk deportation after serving their sentence.
We ask the committee to urge the Norwegian authorities to improve the situation for children with imprisoned parents, by improving visiting facilities, offering children rights to extended visits, and offering financial support to cover travel expenses for visits in prison. We ask the committee to urge the authorities to increase their knowledge on consequences for children when parents get deported and the impact deportation has on the child’s possibility to maintain contact with its parent.
