BUFFF has been conducting outstanding advocacy work and has managed to place children with a parent in prison higher on the Swedish policy agenda. Several meetings with the justice and social departments in 2019 have been fruitful. In 2020, children who have a parent in prison were included under the scope of the Swedish Social Board. The Social Board is now entitled to strengthen the children’s rights. This is the first time in the history of Sweden that children with an imprisoned parent figure in the official policy agenda, and that the government has the explicit duty to protect them.
