In 2018, Exodus launched the KIND expertise centre in Den Bosch, the Netherlands, to provide support and information for children with a parent in prison and their family and social circle. Their goal is to restore the relationship between child and imprisoned parent and to strengthen the community around them, including teachers, social workers and the prison officers who mediate family visits.
The KIND centre also functions as a multipurpose hub for gathering research, holding training programmes and providing community support for those touched by imprisonment, including prison guards. Organised in collaboration with the vocational school Avans University of Applied Sciences, the Netherlands’ Ombudsman for Children and young community ambassadors, KIND is a unique collective of stakeholders in the issue of parental imprisonment.
